I took the job at Dollar rent-a-car because they were a $600,000,000.00/year company with no network. They were being spun out of Chrysler Corp. to a public company (DTAG) and had to remove themselves from the shared satellite network and move to PC's from AS400 dumb tubes. This was a huge opportunity for me because they let me do whatever I wanted within a fixed budget. In 1 year I had converted the entire network to FrameRelay and ISDN and had IP connectivity as well as SDLC connectivity for the AS400 terminals, they went from over 300 hours a month in satellite down time to less than 5 minutes. I setup an internal LAN as well and moved the Dumb tubes to PC's, created Intranet access to the AS400, set up a help desk, set-up a training program, hired and trained a staff, and setup the following years budget.
